Terence Crawford v Jose Benavidez Jr. Odds and Predictions

A big fight is about to hit our screens with Terence Crawford v Jose BenavidezWelterweight world titlist, Terence Crawford signed a contract extension with promoter Top Rank and on the same day announced his first defence against American, Jose Benavidez Jr.

The fight takes place in Omaha at the CHI Health Centre on Saturday night.

The bout will pit two undefeated welterweights together as they share the squared circle and compete for the World Boxing Organisation World Welterweight title. Both of these elite fighters don’t care for each other and face-off in a grudge match that will see one fighter lose his undefeated record.

Best fighter in the world?

Crawford tops a lot of boxing fans and pundit’s pound-for-pound lists, and he will be looking to cement that legacy further by defeating Benavidez Jr.

“I am the best fighter in the world, hands down. ESPN is the biggest brand in sports and Top Rank is the biggest promotional company in boxing,” Crawford said. “This was a no-brainer for me and my team. All of the super fights that the world wants to see will happen. Mark my words. Like I’ve said before, I want all of the champions in the welterweight division.”

Promoter, Bob Arum, shared the same view:

“Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford is the world’s best boxer. We will continue our ongoing campaign to establish him as one of the world’s most recognizable athletes.”

Head to Head

Crawford won his first world title against Ricky Burns in 2014. Since that night he has grown from strength to strength and defeated 11 top opponents. Last year he defeated Felix Diaz (19-1), Julius Indongo (22-0) and earlier this year he stopped Jeff Horn (18-0-1) – A fighter Manny Pacquiao lost against. His latest challenge looks a tough test, but one that “Bud” will relish as he looks to continue that undefeated record.

Crawford’s record stands at 33 wins, 24 KO’s and no defeats – he comes into this fight with incredible fight experience and is rated as the number one welterweight by Boxrec.

This long-awaited fight will be shown live on BoxNation, so we can watch as both contestants look to inflict the first loss on their opponent’s record.

Impressive Records

Although Benavidez Jr. hasn’t fought against the level of opposition that Crawford has, he has some very good wins on his record. However, it remains to be seen if he can mix it with the top welterweights.

Currenlty, Benavidez Jr.’s record stands at 27 wins, 18 KO’s and no defeats. However, he will have to count on his experience, confidence and come into the fight with a well-executed game plan if he is to stand a chance of winning the fight. Benavidez Jr is rated as the 31st best welterweight in the world.

Benavidez Jr. stands taller at 6’2 compared to Crawford who is 5’8. Having said that, the power seems to lie with Crawford; he has 24 stoppages from 33 fights – a KO percentage of 73. Furthermore, Benavidez Jr. has 18 stoppages resulting in a KO percentage of 67. He also has a 3” reach advantage over Crawford. Benavidez Jr. is 5 years younger than Crawford who is 31-years-old.
